Cosmological evolution and large scale structures of radio galaxies and quasars ⋆
نویسندگان
چکیده
The simple unification scheme of powerful radio galaxies and quasars, based entirely on the orientation dependent effects, has been confronted with the observed radio structures for 152 radio galaxies and 173 steep spectrum quasars. Contrary to the scheme's prediction, the cosmological evolution of geometrical parameters describing the large scale structure of these two types of radio sources are different. Linear size, arm ratio asymmetry and bending are all together stronger evolving with epoch for radio galaxies. Moreover, linear size and bending are more closely correlated with radio luminosity for radio galaxies than for quasars. This supports the supposition that, even if these two AGN classes are intrinsically identical sets of objects in deep interior regions, their large scale structures reveal rather various host environmental conditions which can lead to various classes of objects.

AGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies
We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...
متن کاملThrough a Lens Darkly: Evidence for Dusty Gravitational Lenses
Foreground galaxies that amplify the light from background quasars may also dim that light if the galaxies contain enough dust. Extinction by dust in lenses could hide the large number of lensed systems predicted for a flat universe with a large value of the cosmological constant Λ. We look for one signature of dust, namely reddening, by examining optical-infrared colors of gravitationally lens...

متن کاملThe nuclear to host galaxy relation of high redshift quasars
We present near-infrared imaging obtained with ESO VLT+ISAAC of the host galaxies of a sample of low luminosity quasars in the redshift range 1 < z < 2, aimed at investigating the relationship between the nuclear and host galaxy luminosities at high redshift. This work complements our previous systematic study to trace the cosmological evolution of the host galaxies of high luminosity quasars (...
متن کاملThe cosmological light-cone effect on the power spectrum of galaxies and quasars in wide-field redshift surveys
We examine observational consequences of the cosmological light-cone effect on the power spectrum of the distribution of galaxies and quasars from upcoming redshift surveys. First we derive an expression for the power spectrum of cosmological objects in real space on a light cone, PLC R,lin(k), which is exact in linear theory of density perturbations. Next we incorporate corrections for the non...
